A High Order Stochastic Asymptotic Preserving Scheme for Chemotaxis Kinetic Models with Random Inputs

    Get PDF
In this paper, we develop a stochastic Asymptotic-Preserving (sAP) scheme for the kinetic chemotaxis system with random inputs, which will converge to the modified Keller-Segel model with random inputs in the diffusive regime. Based on the generalized Polynomial Chaos (gPC) approach, we design a high order stochastic Galerkin method using implicit-explicit (IMEX) Runge-Kutta (RK) time discretization with a macroscopic penalty term. The new schemes improve the parabolic CFL condition to a hyperbolic type when the mean free path is small, which shows significant efficiency especially in uncertainty quantification (UQ) with multi-scale problems. The stochastic Asymptotic-Preserving property will be shown asymptotically and verified numerically in several tests. Many other numerical tests are conducted to explore the effect of the randomness in the kinetic system, in the aim of providing more intuitions for the theoretic study of the chemotaxis models

Shot Classification in Broadcast Soccer Video

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present an effective hierarchical shot classification scheme for broadcast soccer video. We first partition a video into replay and non-replay shots with replay logo detection. Then, non-replay shots are further classified into Long, Medium, Close-up or Out-field types with color and texture features based on a decision tree. We tested the method on real broadcast FIFA soccer videos, and the experimental results demonstrate its effectiveness.

CoupleNet: Coupling Global Structure with Local Parts for Object Detection

    Get PDF
The region-based Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) detectors such as Faster R-CNN or R-FCN have already shown promising results for object detection by combining the region proposal subnetwork and the classification subnetwork together. Although R-FCN has achieved higher detection speed while keeping the detection performance, the global structure information is ignored by the position-sensitive score maps. To fully explore the local and global properties, in this paper, we propose a novel fully convolutional network, named as CoupleNet, to couple the global structure with local parts for object detection. Specifically, the object proposals obtained by the Region Proposal Network (RPN) are fed into the the coupling module which consists of two branches. One branch adopts the position-sensitive RoI (PSRoI) pooling to capture the local part information of the object, while the other employs the RoI pooling to encode the global and context information. Next, we design different coupling strategies and normalization ways to make full use of the complementary advantages between the global and local branches. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. We achieve state-of-the-art results on all three challenging datasets, i.e. a mAP of 82.7% on VOC07, 80.4% on VOC12, and 34.4% on COCO. Codes will be made publicly available.Comment: Accepted by ICCV 201

Hierarchical clustering-based navigation of image search results

Usually, the image search results contain multiple topics on semantic level and even semantically consistent images have diverse appearances on visual level. How to organize the results into semantically and visually consistent clusters becomes a necessary task to facilitate users ’ navigation. To attack this, HiCluster, an effective method to organize image search results is designed in this paper, which employs both textual and visual analysis. First, we extract some query-related key phrases to enumerate specific semantics of the given query and cluster them into some semantic clusters using K-lines-based clustering algorithm. Second, the resulting images corresponding to each key phrase are clustered with Bregman Bubble Clustering (BBC) algorithm, which partially groups images in the whole set while discarding some scattered noisy ones. At last, a novel user interface (UI) is designed to provide users with the diverse and helpful information based on the hierarchical clustering structure. Experiments on web images demonstrate the effectiveness and potential of the system
